P4B has been working with South Australian Distilleries for over 5 years. One of the early adopters and progressive investors in renewable energy to support their business operations has been the Ochre Nation team of Applewood Distillery and Unico Zelo winery.

Investing in Stages

Discussions first began in 2019. Saving money was important to Laura and Brendan but the environmental impacts were just as motivating, and at the start of 2020 we installed 27kW of Solar to power their distillery and cellar door daytime operations. Achieving some 80% energy offset in their summer months, this system proved the concept within 18 months delivering greater than forecasted energy production and resultant savings.

Feb 2020 – 27.36kW SolarEdge Solar System
Est. $6,600 in annual savings – 4.1 Year Payback.

In June ’22, Stage 2 saw a major upgrade to the production facilities due to significant business growth and commenced the next stage of our work with the team, delivering a further 61kW addition taking their total generating capacity up to 88kW of Solar PV on the roof.

September 2022 – 61kW SolarEdge Solar System
Estimated $39,000 in annual savings – 3.1 Year Payback.

With the announcement of the Office of Small and Family Business’s Small Business Energy Efficiency Grant in August 2024, we worked with Laura and Brendan on designing Battery Storage for the facility. After being approved, we worked together to install 96kWh of battery storage to store excess solar for nighttime usage and to provide a buffer for black-out protection so the distillery/cellar door can continue to operate if the grid fails.

January 2025 – 96kWh SigenStor Battery Storage System
Estimated $8,000 in annual savings – 4.5 Year Payback.

Total System Size

88kW SolarEdge DC Optimised Solar System

96kWh SigenStor Battery Storage System providing nighttime offset and black-out protection for continued distillery/cellar door ops.

Total CO²-e Offset Potential: >70,000kWh of CO²-e per year.
Estimated Offset to Date: >172,000kWh of CO2-e

Long-Term Partner for Long-Term Success

All Systems installed for Ochre Nation had a <5-year return on investment, with the solar stages seeing these returns improve significantly as the cost of power has increased.

P4B forges long-term relationships to support our clients throughout the life of their systems. Whether assessing and supporting system or equipment upgrades, providing sound energy advice or troubleshooting issues, P4B Solar is here to support our clients for many years to come.
